Join Janet Mah, M.A., IWK Psychology Resident, and Dr. Christine Chambers, IWK Psychologist, for a free community information session on “Pain, Pain, Go Away”: Helping Children Cope with Pain”. An opportunity for questions and dialogue will follow the presentation. All are welcome to attend.
This presentation will provide an overview of cognitive-behavioural strategies to help children and youth cope with pain. Strategies include relaxation, imagery, positive self-talk, and more. Their will be discussions about different types of pain, acute [e.g., getting needles], recurrent [e.g., stomach-aches], disease-related pain [e.g., cancer]), and how to assess pain in children, and the parents’ roles in managing pain.
