Preface
This book was written as part
of a comprehensive pain management plan at the Oncology Unit of the Izaak
Walton Killam Children's Hospital. We believe that parents should take an
active role in the management of their child's cancer pain, but are often
not given the information they need to participate. Families working together
are a vital aspect of pain prevention and treatment, and giving parents the
knowledge is the best way to ensure quality pain care.
A companion book for professionals is currently being written. Although we acknowledge the contribution of many professionals and lay colleagues, we are responsible for any errors that remain. The opinions expresssed are those of the authors and may not reflect the opinions of our colleagues, sponsors, or institutions.
We wish to dedicate this book to all the children and parents who have taught and inspired us.
